Canonical has officially announced the beta version of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Focal Fossa for desktop, server and cloud products. The new beta includes a recently developed kernel, which provides support for a number of notable extras.
If you plan to download and experience the Ubuntu 20.04 beta, you should take some time to search and experience the redesigned Yaru theme (theme), making the entire desktop interface look more modern. At the same time you can also find some interesting new default wallpapers on this theme.
Besides the new theme and wallpaper, users will notice that the Amazon button that exists in the sidebar for the past few years has been omitted. Another big change is that the Snap Store has replaced the old Ubuntu Software tool into the default program for finding and managing packages and snaps, but retains the name and logo of Ubuntu Software. In addition, beta 20.04 for other Ubuntu branches including Kubfox, Lubfox, Ubuntu Budgie, UbuntuKylin, Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu Studio and Xubfox are also available for download and experience.
Ubuntu follows the new release cycle twice a year, with one released in April and the other released in October. Ubuntu 20.04 with Focal Fossa identifier is the first major release. first of 2020, rolling out to global users starting April 25. Systems running on previous versions of Ubuntu will be able to upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04, but only apply with 64-bit setup.
Because it is a long term service release (LTS) Ubuntu 20.04 will be maintained by Canonical for five consecutive years, until April 2025, or for only three years as regular releases.

Here are a few changes, notable new features are planned on Ubuntu 20.04.
The first is the new theme - another version of the current Yaru theme, with the main color being purple, instead of the usual orange and green. The color of the folder icons will also be completely changed, as you can see in the screenshot above.
Along with the visual changes, there will also be an entirely new default wallpaper, with the ‘Fossa’ mascot image standing out in the middle:
Ubuntu will remove the Amazon web launcher from all Ubuntu installation images, including Focal Fossa's images. This is a small change but will be appreciated by many users (and help free up more space on the Ubuntu Dock).
As for applications, the Ubuntu Software store on Ubuntu 20.04 will be a Snap-based version. This is basically an application (based on GNOME Software) but developed with the Snap format. In addition, the Snap version of the GNOME Calculator, Characters and Logs applications will be replaced by the apt versions, for faster loading times.
A series of new features of GNOME 3.36 are also planned to be available on Ubuntu 20.04, including a more optimized Applications screen, easier-to-read application notifications, and a gorgeous new lock screen interface. Besides, there are a few other small changes as follows:
- Linux Kernel 5.4
- Improved support for installing ZFS
- New wallpaper
- Smaller .iso image
- Support multi-screen in GDM
- Improvements related to the ability to play games
- Improved Shell Gnome performance
In short, Ubuntu 20.04 is the LTS version, so the main focus of this release will be to bring stability and reliability to users. Focal Fossa will certainly come with a lot of improvements, bug fixes, and especially new features that are small but still very noticeable.
